Privacy Policy for Water Reminder
1. Introduction
Water Reminder is designed to help you track your daily water intake and build hydration habits. The app is designed with privacy in mind: it does not require an account and does not use a developer-controlled backend or database. By default, all app data stays on your device. If you turn on the optional iCloud sync feature, your data also syncs through your own private iCloud account so your own devices stay in sync — the developer cannot access this data. The developer never receives or stores your hydration history on a server.
2. Data Stored on Your Device
Water Reminder may store the following information locally on your device: water intake entries and timestamps; custom drinks and recipes you create; custom containers and their volumes; your daily hydration goal and the inputs used to calculate it, including any weather-based adjustment; wake and sleep schedule and reminder settings; language, unit, and appearance preferences; streaks, achievements, and history and summary statistics; output/bathroom events, including any optional notes and estimated amounts you add; a cached weather lookup (a temperature and a timestamp only — not location coordinates); and widget and Apple Watch synchronization state. This information is used only to provide app functionality, including progress tracking, history, reminders, widgets, achievements, weather-aware goals, and Apple Watch synchronization.
3. Local Storage and Optional iCloud Sync
By default, Water Reminder stores all app data locally on your device, and some state is stored in App Group UserDefaults so widgets can display your current hydration progress. Water Reminder does not use a developer-controlled database, backend API, user account system, or any external developer-controlled storage — the developer does not receive or store your hydration history on a server. If you turn on the optional iCloud sync setting, Water Reminder additionally syncs the following data through Apple CloudKit, using your own private iCloud database: hydration entries, containers, custom drink recipes (drinks you've saved with a default amount), and output/bathroom events. Your daily goal and the inputs used to calculate it, reminder settings, achievements, quick custom drinks logged without a saved amount, and the cached weather lookup described in Section 2 are not included in iCloud sync — they always stay local to each device, even when sync is on. This private CloudKit database belongs to your iCloud account — Apple provides the infrastructure, and the developer has no access to it. iCloud sync is off by default and only activates if you turn it on. Turning sync off in the app stops any further syncing immediately, but it does not retroactively delete records already saved to your private iCloud database — those records remain in your iCloud account until removed. You can delete this data at any time using "Delete iCloud Data" in the app's iCloud settings, which permanently removes it from your private CloudKit database and turns sync off. You can also remove it at the operating-system level: Settings on your device → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage (or "Manage Storage") → Water Reminder → Delete Data. Either method is separate from deleting local data on your device (see Section 12, "Data Retention and Deletion") and from deleting Apple Health samples (see Section 5, "Apple Health / HealthKit").
4. Apple Watch and Widgets
Water Reminder may share app state between your iPhone, Apple Watch, and widgets so that your own devices can display hydration progress, quick-add entries, streaks, history, weekly average, and next reminder time. This synchronization is used only for app functionality and is separate from the optional iCloud sync described in Section 3.
5. Apple Health / HealthKit
Apple Health sync is optional and available only with your permission. If you enable Apple Health sync, Water Reminder can both write water intake samples to Apple Health and read dietary water samples from Apple Health, including samples logged by other apps or devices. Water Reminder only writes water intake data that you choose to record or sync, and it does not write intentionally false or misleading data to Apple Health. When you delete an entry that Water Reminder created in Apple Health, the app may delete the corresponding Apple Health sample — this only removes samples Water Reminder created; it does not delete dietary water samples written by other apps. Dietary water read from Apple Health that was not created by Water Reminder is shown separately from entries you created in the app, so your own log and externally-sourced Health data are never merged into one number without distinction. Water Reminder does not use Apple Health or HealthKit data for advertising, marketing, profiling, or data mining, and does not sell Apple Health data. You can manage Apple Health permissions in the Health app or iOS Settings at any time. Water Reminder is not a medical app and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
6. Weather-Aware Goals (WeatherKit)
Water Reminder can optionally use Apple WeatherKit to suggest a weather-aware daily hydration goal. If you enable this feature, the app requests your approximate location only while the app is in use (When-In-Use authorization) — it does not request Always access. This location is used only to look up the current weather from WeatherKit; Water Reminder does not store your GPS coordinates. Only the resulting current temperature and the time of the lookup are cached locally on your device, as described in Section 2. This feature is entirely optional: Water Reminder works fully without location access or weather data, and you can set your hydration goal manually at any time.
7. Notifications and Reminders
Water Reminder uses local notifications to remind you to drink water. Reminder schedules are based on your settings, wake/sleep schedule, selected reminder mode, and daily goal progress. You can manage notification permissions in system settings. Notification data is not sold, shared, or used for advertising.
8. Data Collection by the Developer
Water Reminder does not require an account. The app does not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, or payment information through the app itself, and it does not transmit your hydration history, custom drinks, goals, reminders, achievements, or output/bathroom events to the developer. If you enable the optional weather-aware goals feature, the app requests approximate location only to look up current weather, as described in Section 6 — this location is not stored as coordinates and is not sent to the developer. If you enable optional iCloud sync, that data is stored in your own private iCloud account through Apple CloudKit, as described in Section 3 — the developer cannot access it. Water Reminder does not use third-party advertising or third-party tracking, and does not sell your data.
9. Support Form and Email
If you contact support through the form on this website or by email, the developer receives the information you provide: your name, your email address, the enquiry type you select (App Support & Help, Feature Request / Feedback, or General Contact), and your message. Messages submitted through the website form are sent using Resend (resend.com), a transactional email provider that processes and delivers the message to the developer's inbox on the developer's behalf. This information is used only to respond to your enquiry. It is not used for marketing, is not sold, and is not shared with any other third party. Support correspondence is retained only as long as needed to handle your enquiry and for a reasonable period afterward for record-keeping, unless you request earlier deletion. You may request deletion of your support correspondence at any time by contacting michal@targiel.pro.
10. Third-Party Services
Water Reminder and this website rely on the following third-party services: Apple Health (HealthKit) — optional, used to read and write dietary water samples with your permission, as described in Section 5; iCloud / CloudKit — optional, used to sync your data privately between your own devices, as described in Section 3; Apple WeatherKit — optional, used to look up current weather for weather-aware goals, as described in Section 6; and Resend — used only to deliver messages submitted through the support form on this website, as described in Section 9. No other third-party services, analytics, or advertising SDKs are used by Water Reminder or by this website.
11. Website
The Water Reminder pages on Targiel.pro are informational pages and do not use analytics, tracking scripts, advertising pixels, or cookies. The only interactive element on these pages that transmits data is the support form described in Section 9, which sends your message to the developer via Resend. If the existing hosting platform automatically creates standard server logs, those logs are controlled by the hosting environment and are not used by Water Reminder to track in-app hydration activity.
12. Data Retention and Deletion
Local data on your device remains until you delete individual entries, use one of the app's reset options, uninstall the app, or otherwise clear it. Resetting local data (for example, resetting logs or achievements) clears the data stored on your device only — it does not delete data already saved to your private iCloud account if iCloud sync is or was enabled, and it does not delete Apple Health samples. Any in-app reset is described as clearing "everything" only where it removes local data, your synced iCloud data, and the Apple Health samples the app created; a reset that only clears local data is labeled accordingly. CloudKit data, if you enabled iCloud sync, remains in your private iCloud account until you delete it as described in Section 3, independent of whether the app is installed or local data has been cleared. Apple Health samples that Water Reminder wrote remain in Apple Health until you delete them from the Health app, from Water Reminder, or by revoking Water Reminder's Health permissions and removing the associated data, as described in Section 5. Support correspondence is retained as described in Section 9.
13. Children
Water Reminder is not specifically directed to children. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
14. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable privacy laws, including the right to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or objection to the processing of personal information that the developer may hold about you. Because Water Reminder stores hydration data locally on your device (and, if you enable iCloud sync, within your own private iCloud account) and does not transmit this data to the developer, the developer generally cannot access, export, correct, or delete your in-app hydration data on your behalf. You can manage or delete this data directly: locally, through the app's reset options, by deleting entries, or by uninstalling the app; in iCloud, through the deletion method described in Section 3; and in Apple Health, through the Health app or iOS Settings. For support correspondence, you may contact michal@targiel.pro to request deletion or other assistance.
15. App Store Privacy Information and Legal Compliance
The privacy information provided for Water Reminder in App Store Connect is intended to accurately reflect the app's data practices across all supported platforms, including its use of HealthKit, iCloud/CloudKit, and WeatherKit. If Water Reminder's data practices change, the developer will update this Privacy Policy and, where required, the app privacy information in App Store Connect. This Privacy Policy is intended to describe Water Reminder's privacy practices in accordance with the App Store Review Guidelines and applicable privacy laws. This policy does not limit any rights you may have under applicable law.
16. Changes to This Policy
This privacy policy may be updated if Water Reminder's functionality or data practices change. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
